An upbeat love-song to my step-son, Henri, whom I am very close to, and who also sings on the track. I sing the first verse, chorus and middle eight (about him); he sings the second verse and chorus (about me). If not quite the "black sheep" of our respective families, we are most definitely "lesser loved sons" in the eyes of our respective (biological) parents -- which makes it GREAT that we have enjoyed the opportunity to choose for each other in our artificial, extended family.

Lyrics

Lesser Loved Sons

Oh-oh-oh-oh!
Henry and I
Less understood
Amongst our brood,
But we don’t care
God forbid
We need their patronage
To succeed
We get there under our own steam
No good at football
But likes food
And cartoons
Video
Telling jokes
Consoles
Joy sticks
And porno
He rocks them all
Yeah, he rocks them!

If some bonds are forced
Some are true
I had a choice
And I took a chance on you

Choose your friends wisely
‘Cos you can’t choose your family
Lesser loved you might be
But better loved by me

You chose your own path
You had the last laugh

Oh-oh!
Henk and I
We are lesser loved amongst our blood
And I’m sorry, Mum
I wasn’t more
Like my brother,
And Dad,
Was not the son you wished you’d had
Though good
At school
Played the fool
And guitar licks
High jinx
And high tech
The Internet
And the bizarre
And boys and girls

He loves them all
Yeah, he loves ‘em!

If some bonds are forged in
Happenstance
You had choices
And you took a chance on me

Choose your friends wisely
‘Cos you can’t choose your family
Lesser loved you might be
But better loved by me
