From the recording Blossom Outside
Originally titled "Distraction", "Noise" is a screeching, riff-and-guitar-driven track that questions why everyone seems to be so concerned (nosy and "noisy"!) about what "other" (read "different") people get up to in their lives, amplifying their purported outrage to disproportionate volumes, compared to much bigger issues society faces, like global poverty.
Lyrics
Noise
Noise to your left
Noise to your right
Lots of loud, loud noise to get distracted by
Noise up above
Noise down below
So loud it drowns out the radio
What does it have to do with you?
What two grown-ups get up to
In the privacy of their own adulthood?
Why are you so concerned with others?
How they live and think and love?
Drowning out in all this sound
The things that really matter
Opinion here
Opinion there
Every where you look
Opinion everywhere
On the internet
In the books I read
Everyone has something to say about it
What does it have to do with you?
What women choose to do
With their own bodies, and their worries and their lives and choices too?
Why are you so concerned with others?
How they live and think and love?
Drowning out in all this sound
The things that really matter
Proportional to poverty
Why does this noise get priority?
Or are you scared the sound of silence will out you…
Why are you so obsessed with others?
How they live and think and love?
Drowning out in all this sound
The things that really matter
Na na na na na na noise
