A love song to my wife, Juliet. I am sure many folk -- friends and foes alike -- have over the years commented on the fact how different we appear. Juliet is practical; I am theoretical. Juliet is emotional; I am super rational. And so it goes. So on paper, it shouldn't work. Yet it does, splendidly -- and not just because there is sufficient overlap in the Venn diagram (there absolutely is!) but precisely because of the differences. They complement each other.

But also somewhat an ode to my best friend Joe. "The Odd Couple" is a classic 1968 comedy starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau as two divorced men – neurotic neat-freak Felix and fun-loving slob Oscar (both mentioned in the first verse) -- who live together. Again, on paper it shouldn't work, but underneath their differences, there is real connection and affection.

Lyrics

The Odd Couple

There
Just like Felix and like Oscar
Deemed
Incompatible
But despite appearance
Accept each other-
Warts and all

So different strokes for different folks
To each their own
Whatever floats your boat

Betwixt chalk and cheese, the twain will meet
You like your coffee
I like tea

There’s no accounting for taste
And I’m all brawn
You’re brains and a pretty face
Someone’s trash is another’s treasure
But I think we look pretty good together

There
Just like Jefferson and Franklin
We are the odd couple
But we feel pretty sanguine
Content in our bubble

They say there is nowt as queer as folk
I have to admit I’m pretty rogue
In fact, if opposites attract
We are a perfect match
‘Cos

There’s no accounting for taste
And I’m all brawn
You’re brains and a pretty face
Someone’s trash is another’s treasure
But I think we look pretty good together

Horses for courses, baby
Horses for courses, yeah!
Horses for courses, baby!
Horses for courses

There’s no accounting for taste
And I’m all brawn
You’re brains and a pretty face
Someone’s trash is another’s treasure
But I think we look pretty good together

I love your stubby nose and morning breath
You love my beer belly and big baldy head
You pop my pimples, I think that’s gross
Your imperfections are what I love most
