From the recording Sonic Chocolate
Referencing the famous Robert Frost poem "The Road Not Taken", this is a song basically about two different types of regret:
1) regretting NOT having the courage to pursue love, because you're scared of getting hurt
2) FOMO — keeping your options open at all times and therefore never committing. Thereby (paradoxically!) missing out on really living — experiencing the meaning and intensity of a real love.
Lyrics
Love Lost (The Road Not Taken)
It’s better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all
Never given it a shot
It’s better to have tried and failed
Than just curtailed
Your own chance
Of a beautiful romance
Lose 100 percent
Of the bets you don’t spend
Of the shots
You don't take
On the shelf remain
You’re scared to get hurt
Can’t think of anything worse
You know love is a curse
That will haunt you
You know love lost
Always comes at a cost
In idle moments of wondering
What might have been
You
See silhouettes that
You just can’t forget
Regret the things that you left
On the road not taken
If at first, you do not succeed then
Try, try, try again
What have you got to lose?
In shooting for the stars
You might just hit the moon, yeah!
So please keep going
Don’t give up so soon
What fire did die?
Under a different sky?
Who stared deep into your eyes?
In another life?
Did your eyes scan
The horizon
Torn maps
Fingerstips
Trace the tracks
Of old plans
You know love lost
Always comes at a cost
In idle moments of wondering
What might have been
You
See silhouettes that
You just can’t forget
Regret the things that you left
On the road not taken
If only you could
Live multiple lives
You’d never miss out
On anything
Ironically
Keeping your options free
Is what stopped you from
Really living
You know love lost
Always comes at a cost
In idle moments of wondering
What might have been
You
See silhouettes that
You just can’t forget
Regret the things that you left
On the road not taken
Oh!
Love and regret!
For the road not taken!
Oh!
Love and regret!
For the road not taken!
